The first time we met Ben & Liz, we sat down for a cocktail and instantly connected. I loved their unique vision and style, plus I'm a sucker for a fabulous brunch wedding! I knew we'd make a great fit for documenting their lovely wedding.
Their day went absolutely swimmingly! When we arrived at the historic DeMenil Mansion, located off Cherokee Street near the Lemp Brewery, Liz and Ben were getting ready with their respective parties. I was greeted with freshly brewed (and amazingly strong) coffee, and Liz doing her own hair and make-up. She killed it! The scenery at the mansion is so unique, it's historic details provided a fabulous backdrop for all their details & getting ready shots.
As the day continued, Ben and Liz surrounded themselves with a team of amazing folks, from helping get ready to decorating and making sure everything was perfect. It truly takes a team to pull off a wedding. After the first look and the portraits (one which I coined Presidential AF, can you guess which one?!), we were honored to witness their personalized and sweet vows outside under the gazebo. It was gorgeous!
The reception was held under tents outside, the weather was just perfect. Mimosas and Bloody Marys were flowing, and everyone had a grand time. Between the yummy brunch and the fabulous cakes & pies from Russell's Bakery, all the guests were happy and full.
Much congrats and love to Ben and Liz, we wish you all the best!
Kirstin & Doug
We are so excited to document Doug & Kirstin's wedding day in 2018! To celebrate, we spent a beautiful fall evening down at Chouteau's Landing. But honestly, it wouldn't have mattered where we were. These two are full of a contagious joy for life and love for each other. I really tried hard to get a few serious shots but it just wouldn't happen. They were so happy and had ear to ear grins the entire time. Congrats to Doug & Kirstin on their engagement!
Sweet little Shepherd was so alert for his newborn session! I love the casual nature of lifestyle sessions for new babies. Putting first time parents at ease and keeping stress to a minimum is essential, because when parents are stressed, babies get stressed! I loved how mom and dad decorated Shepherd's adorable room, all blacks and whites and geometric shapes and textures. Perfect for this photographer to work with! Welcome to the world, Shepherd, and congrats to Sarah & Dan on their new son!
The Mueth Family
Right between the change of summer to fall, when all the native plants are in full bloom and the weather is no longer completely unbearable, has become my favorite time to shoot. I love the richness of colors but the lack of a definitive "fall" look in the trees. I love when people can wear a sweater to a shoot, or take it off if it gets a bit warm. I love the tones of the earth at this time, and I hate that its so fleeting! I met the Mueth family at this time of year for their family session, and it was so perfect. Young children usually only tolerate about 15-20 minutes of me trying to direct them, so we move quickly and then let them run free. Sally and Oliver did this beautifully, and we were able to get some great images of this lovely family.
Scott and Sara
Sara & Scott are, for my business, the rare client that I don't actually meet until wedding day. Living full & busy lives in Chicago, they booked Be Lovely over the phone, and we planned and messaged back and forth for months up till their big day. When we arrived to the hotel where they were both getting ready, and we met everyone in person, we quickly knew it was going to be a fabulous day. Everyone surrounding Sara & Scott were so kind and sweet, full of generosity and so much love for the couple. When the day starts this way, you know that no hiccup is going to bring the happy couple down!
The wedding ceremony took place at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Soulard, with the reception at the always awesome 9th Street Abbey. Patty Long Catering knows how to throw a great party, and they keep everything stress-free and seamless.
After wedding party photos in Lafayette Square Park, we headed back to the Abbey for a delicious cocktail hour reception in the vine-filled courtyard. It's such a festive atmosphere, and with the majority of their guests being from out of town, everyone was in a lively and joyful mood.
But I will say my favorite part of this wedding day was the speeches done by the bride's mother. It was so deep and heartfelt, everyone was crying. It was truly the most amazing and sentimental pieces I've ever heard at a wedding. Congrats to Sara & Scott on their wonderful marriage!
Documenting the major passages and events in people's lives is such a crazy honor, I sometimes can't believe I am in this very amazing line of work. When I first met Stacey and Paul, they were engaged and planning the most kick ass wedding at the Contemporary Art Museum. I really couldn't believe my luck to have earned the trust of such awesome clients, but I'm so glad I did. Their wedding was full of stunning details and loving moments, but the best was Stacey's gorgeous gold hand-beaded vintage dress. Gah, it was the best!
Anyway, I was thrilled when they contacted me years later to inform me that they were expecting their first baby, a girl named Piper. I photographed their maternity session, then met up with them at their loft (that they were right about to move out of!) for her newborn session. And was she a dream to photograph, just the sweetest little chunk! Enjoy the images of the amazing Piper!
Laura & Mark
Ah, thinking back to when everything in St. Louis was lush and green! We met up with Laura & Mark at the end of spring at Laumeier Sculpture Gardens, one of my all time favorite locations to shoot sessions at. The trails are pretty accessible, the scenery is gorgeous, and you can use the art or completely avoid it. Plus, there are times during the week when you almost have the entire place to yourself! Alright local photogs, don't go stealing my best kept secret! We loved capturing the intense love between these two, engagement sessions are the best way to really get to know a couple before their wedding. Congrats to Laura & Mark!
I love this family so much, they are close friends and her Artie and my Max were born just 1 day apart. They are truly little besties, and we were so thrilled when we found out they were expecting their sweet second son! And though we were really hoping for some fabulous sunset images, the sky proved to not care and it started raining about 30 seconds after we wrapped up. Such is life!
Anna & Anthony
What can I say about this beautiful couple that you can't see? Well, they are just fabulous on so many levels. Anna and Anthony's wedding was really a show stopper. So much attention to detail, from the amazing groom's cake to every over the top floral component, we loved documenting every little bit of it. On top of the beautiful day they had, there was so much love surrounding every moment of it. I saw Anna a few days after the wedding and she was still grinning from ear to ear about it all. Not one second of negativity or hiccup was allowed to enter their event, even when an illness swept through the bridal party and people were rushing from urgent care to the ceremony! Talk about team players!
In all honesty, the details and the flowers and all the glitter fades after the wedding day, the memories you keep are those of the feelings that encompass the people that surround you. These two really just nailed every aspect of their wedding, and we were so thrilled to document their day!
The first time I met this family, little Felix was snug as a bug in mama's belly. After meeting him for his newborn session, we now got to revisit him for his first birthday! He's the sweetest little brother to Margot, who has a toothless smile that will melt your heart. I love this family, and documenting them in their beautiful home is always a treat. Happy 1st Birthday to Felix!
Chelsea & Jake
What a gorgeous day, we loved working with Chelsea and Jake as they celebrated their marriage! Their engagement sessions was so much fun, we knew these two were going to have a great time on their special day. The women got ready at the Cheshire, which is a top 5 spot on my favorite places to get ready. The bridal party even enjoyed some chicken wings in the oversized tub, we can't help but love that!
After their lovely ceremony, we headed to the Grove for photos. That part of the city is so lively and festive, with lots of graffiti and an urban backdrop. Their reception was nearby at the Missouri Botanical Gardens, so we finished up the wedding party photos there, almost stumbling right into the processional for another wedding! Oops!
Congrats to Chelsea and Jake on there fabulous wedding, may your life be filled with the same joy and love you shared that day!
Frida is joining a family with 4 other strong ladies (and an awesome dad). Trust me, there's no shortage of loving hands to hold her. I've known this family since before we both had lots of kids, so it's so amazing to see them grow and expand and share all their love. Congrats to the Fricks for your newest addition, she really makes a lovely fourth child:)
Ellen & Mark
Meeting new clients and documenting their transition from a couple to a family is so special. Nothing changes you more than becoming a parent, and these two made the final weeks of Ellen's pregnancy look seamless! Forest Park wins again by providing the most lush and beautiful backdrop. From waterfalls to willow trees to perfect scenes for a silhouette, the scenic city park never gets old. Adding a lovely couple to the perfect scenery is just icing on the cake.
This was the third time I met Amelia, the first was her mama's maternity session, then I had the honor of documenting her birth at home, and finally for her official newborn session! This calm, gentle soul is greatly loved by her family, and was a dream at her session. Babywearing as so vital to me when I had younger ones at home, so anytime I photograph a babywearing parent, I try and incorporate images into their shoot. Trust me, the time flies when the babies become big and don't have time to be wrapped up and worn! Congrats to this lovely family on their newest arrival!
Take everyone you know, put them in a room with you, and watch what happens. This memorable day is so huge, it's full of many tiny moments that lead up to grand moments, and time seems to stand still and fly by simultaneously. They are so much preparation, and so time consuming, and yet so worth it. Whether it's an intimate event with 4 guests, or a grand party with 350 of your closest, we love a great wedding celebration. Documenting weddings is something Be Lovely is passionate about, and we love covering the entire big day from start to finish. The details that you may not notice, the emotions, and the beautiful portraits, we strive to make your flawless day just that. Attention to lighting, focusing on whats important, looking at the surroundings, making sure your veil is perfect, and allowing you to have your day be all about you, that's why we shoot weddings. Love is love, it's big and emotional and simple and pure. This gallery is some highlights from weddings we've shot over the past few years, and though we can't feature all of them, we feel like it's a lovely sampling of our vision.
Kids, Babies, Bellies
No matter how a baby gets into your arms, parenting is a life altering experience. Sleepless months, messy clothes, unshowered and hungry, I would compare parenting to a journey into an unknown jungle. You really have no way to prepare for it, but you fight and fight to keep afloat. Once the kids get out of that crazy newborn stage, parenting establishes a rhythm, one that has gotten us to this place since the beginning of time. We become parents for many reasons, but the love we feel for our children is one we'd fight for. I love capturing all the moments of parenthood and family life, from the squishy wrinkles of a brand new baby, to the scowl of an annoyed toddler, to the passage from high schooler to college. Every moment is worthy of documentation.
We have 3 kids at home, ranging from almost 12 to 3, so I know how fast it flies by. Have I ever regretted having our family photos taken? Never, but I do miss the years we skipped it because we were too busy and it seemed like the last thing I wanted to plan. No one has ever come back and said "I'm so mad we have photographs of that," so take it from me and don't be like me!! Capture your family, print out the images, put them on walls and in albums. It's literally the only thing we have after the moment is over.
We love documenting all kinds of awesome events, and Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are included in that category. Each teen has a unique party, sometimes we only cover the rehearsal, other times we get to document the event and the party. It's such a huge step in a 13 year old's life, and they work for years getting ready for this moment. Here are some highlights!
